Excursion to Montalcino, Pienza and Montepulciano

Itinerary

Your tour will begin with a drive through the picturesque hills of Tuscany to the town of Montalcino just south of Siena. Here, you will visit the town then we go to a winery and explore the cellars while provides you with a comprehensive look at the wines and the winemaking process. You will taste Brunello di Montalcino DOC and Rosso di Montalcino DOC wines while also being treated to an unforgettable Tuscan snck (not included).

After lunch we go to Pienza, a sleepy medieval hilltown was transformed into what was to be Pope Pius II’s idea of the ideal Renaissance city in the 15th century. This area is known worldwide for the most exquisite production of Pecorino (sheep cheese). While walking along the narrow renaissance streets of Pienza you will be submerged by the scents coming from the little shops selling this local treasure. Cheese vendors will be glad to offer you a sampling of the massive variety of Pecorino: be it aged in ashes, underground, in bay leaves, with truffle, with spices, etc. The city today has been marked by the UNESCO registrar as one of the world’s great heritage monuments.

Then we go to Montepulciano for a short visit of this attractive little mediaeval town, home of the famous Vino Nobile vineyards. The grape used to produce Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is prugnolo gentile, a variety of the sangiovese grape.
You will taste for free the typical Rosso di Montepulciano DOC, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG and Vin Santo (dessert wine) at a winery .

In the afternoon we will travel back through the Tuscan hills to Florence.
